At the IAA in Frankfurt, the EDAG Group will be presenting not just its live engineering project #collectivio, but also seven technological innovations from the fields of lightweight design and eMobility. As the growing number of variants continues to increase due to the alternative powertrains available, greater flexibility and above all more lightweight solutions, both for components but also in manufacturing, are called for. Wiesbaden-based engineering specialists EDAG have already in recent years provided impressive evidence of the company's engineering skills in additive manufacturing. EDAG are continuing this success story this year with a number of projects including the in-house development of a new, service-oriented E/E architecture.

For us, lightweight design competence, car IT and production solutions remain key future-oriented subjects. I am delighted that we can once again offer a real firework display of proactively developed technology concepts in these future fields here in Frankfurt," declares Jürgen Vogt, CEO of the EDAG Group.

Under the code name "Vision 2025", EDAG will be presenting the E/E architecture of the future at the IAA. "Vision 2025" systematically divides the vehicle into different geometrical zones, instead of the domains commonly used today. The zones are networked via the automotive Ethernet: this permits high data rates and guarantees real time capability when using TSN. Short lines of communication make weight savings of up to 30% possible. Even more "radical" is the change-over from embedded ECUs to a service-oriented architecture (SOA): instead of being distributed on ECUs, customer functions are localised on two central computers. Apart from updates, customers can subsequently install new features or apps.

The construction of a laboratory vehicle with a CAN networked domain architecture called "Base 2017" is planned for 2018. The use of IP-free serial components of various suppliers enables young startup companies to get a vehicle on the road in a very short time. Parallel to this, EDAG uses this architecture as the basis for further developments towards "Vision 2025", in which the company cooperates with TSN's real time Ethernet specialists.
