Back in 2011, Marc Andreessen, co-founder of Netscape, coined the phrase "software is eating the world". The prediction that software would become the main disruptor of various industries and the success (or of course failure) factor for today's movers and shakers is particularly evident in the automotive industry. In addition to the exponential increase in the lines of code in a car, the approach to development is also changing: decentralised, monolithic embedded software developed in line with the classic V-model is increasingly being replaced. These are being superseded by software modules that are combined into complex clusters, are reusable and have been developed in modern object-oriented programming languages using agile methods. Automobile manufacturers and their suppliers and partners will very quickly have to implement massive changes if they intend to continue to play a leading role in the future. Our mission is to accompany this change and to support you throughout the process.

From the idea to start of production – and beyond

Working as your partner, we enter the project at an early stage and discuss our ideas with you from the concept phase on. With our many years of experience in the development of a wide variety of software functions, we have full system competence, and can do far more than just program to specification. Complying with current norms and standards at all times, we offer our support from series development through to production, and can assist you with production support and the continuous roll-out of new functions. As our services are modular, you can request either the complete package or just separate, individual modules.

Our fully integrated development services are based on our own tried and tested software development process. In an independent Automotive SPICE Assessment, Level 2 maturity was achieved throughout - in all software engineering processes, the support processes of the VDA scope, the requirement elicitation process, and the project management process. You can also benefit from our modern tool chain, which is equipped with numerous automation functions.

Safe, Secure, Connected

Not only do modern software applications need to perform the intended function, they also have to meet the highest standards and requirements with regard to both functional safety (ISO 26262) and protection against cyber threats. What is more, such applications rarely operate at a purely local level, but are far more likely to communicate with IT systems outside of the vehicle in order, to offer the user additional added value.

    We are experienced in the development of safety-critical embedded systems up to ASIL D, and know the resulting technical and process requirements down to the last detail. Our embedded developers are trained in functional safety and work closely with the EDAG Competence Centre for Functional Safety in Weinheim. Working as internal and external service providers, over 50 highly qualified functional safety managers and engineers bring their tried and tested expertise to bear in projects.

    Today's vehicles are part of the digital revolution. Increasing connectivity in vehicles, both with one another and with the Web, is giving rise to growing demands on vehicle software.

    In contrast to older systems, the focus here is not solely on the safety of the developed functions, in other words, the functional safety with regard to both the system and the user, but also on security, i.e. protection against malicious external threats.

    The security of a car is put to the test every day in the course of its life. Functions and algorithms that are still regarded as safe at SOP might tomorrow already be obsolete standards, as hardware and software become increasingly powerful. The only way we can counteract this is by updating and evaluating the functions throughout the vehicle's entire life. We will be happy to advise you, to make sure that you are equipped for the challenges of the future.

    Distributed functions and additional requirements call for communication not only inside the vehicle, but also to an ever-increasing extent between vehicles, and between vehicle and backend systems. Through the synergies in our software & digitalisation portfolio, we can offer you solutions that make a seamless transition between the embedded world and the IT world possible.

  • We can assist you with the implementation, integration and safeguarding of OTA solutions and, on request, will also set up a complete backend infrastructure for software distribution. We also implement remote diagnosis functions, including fleet management.

  • In addition to autonomous driving, remote-controlled, automated vehicles are also playing an increasingly important role, especially in scenarios such as airports, agriculture or container terminals. For vehicles of this type, we have developed a fully integrated solution that allows series-production trucks to be retrofitted with remote control systems: ready for series production and functional safety compliant, of course.

  • When cars not only communicate with manufacturers, but also talk to each other and connect up with traffic technology in cities and on motorways (Car2X communication), then we will have arrived in the future. Technically speaking, the obstacles are "relatively" minor. What limits this development is the lack of uniform communication standards (across countries and manufacturers).

    Car2X paves the way for many new vehicle functions that will have a positive influence on the traffic flow, or simply provide the customer with additional comfort functions.
