As an internationally active company, it is our responsibility that human rights are complied with and that accepted standards are observed at our many facilities worldwide. With the EDAG Code of Ethics, we commit to the continued support of the ten UN Global Compact principles and to continual improvement in their implementation. One of the principles established by the code is that EDAG supports and respects the protection of internationally proclaimed human rights within its sphere of influence, and ensures that EDAG is not complicit in human rights abuses.
Professional education is very important within the EDAG Group. We have been taken on this special responsibility for almost 50 years. Our training ratio in Germany is currently at 8.3% Our apprentices repeatedly receive local and national-level awards for their excellent examination results is evidence of the high quality and continuity of EDAG's training scheme.
It is our objective to operate systems and processes in such a manner that neither our employees nor the environment are jeopardised. Safety takes absolute priority at EDAG. We reinforce the safety-conscious behaviour of our employees in the context of regular training, inspections by experts for work safety and internal audits. We continuously check the provided tools and systems and issue instructions for the handling of hazardous goods.
Next to the control of the business processes in connection with internal standards, we also monitor general working conditions. This is done via internal audits and work safety committee meetings (ASA) in cooperation with the specialist for Industrial Safety. In 2018, we have also certified our industrial safety management at the locations Fulda and Wiesbaden (our core functions) as well as in Munich according to OHSAS 18001.
Beyond the initial and continuing vocational education and training within the EDAG Group, we are also engaged in the context of various projects for the education of young people. For instance, as well as working on cooperation projects with diverse universities, we are also a member of various support associations. In addition to this, as associates of the non-profit organization "Gemeinnützigen Perspektiva GmbH", we also assist teenagers and young adults in their search for work. The target group of this project are young people with handicaps, who cannot find jobs without help. We also donate to the employees association "pro Belegschaft e.V.", which primarily helps employees of the EDAG workforce and their direct dependents who, through no fault of their own, find themselves in (economic) need.
In addition, we support girls in MINT occupations. This includes location-transcending participation of the EDAG Group in the Girls' Day, but also the annual MINT Girls Camp, which we hold in Fulda. In cooperation with various educational institutions, the focus was on familiarizing young girls with professions in the fields of mathematics, computer science, natural sciences and technology (in German: MINT).
