Neat Move with Style

Wiesbaden 8.10. 2019 The EDAG Group were commissioned by HYDRO Systems KG to develop and manufacture the body and cabin of an innovative, emission-free aircraft pushback tractor. HYDRO Systems KG is a leading manufacturer of equipment for the construction, maintenance and movement of aircraft. Equipped with state-of-the-art sensor technology, the "emover" is the first 100% electrically driven tractor in this performance class. The "emover" was first presented to the international public as an innovation highlight at Inter Airport, the international exhibition for airport equipment in Munich, on 8th October, 2019. In its role as engineering partner for the development of the futuristic exterior, the EDAG Group was instrumental in seeing the pioneering project through.

"We were pleased to contribute our vehicle development expertise, and thus help to make the "emover" not just technically perfect, but also modern and stylish," explains Uwe Schäfer, EDAG project leader. The EDAG Group's design specialists created an elegant cabin in a tear drop design in the first stage, along with a futuristic outer skin to provide a form-fitting cover for the complex, large-volume drive tech-nology. The 2.6 m² battery pack was placed flat behind the driver's cab with its large windows. The four 360-degree design rotating elements in the flanks of the vehicle underline the excellent mobility of the six drive units. After the design and package phase, the EDAG Group was responsible for the surface development (surfacing) up to the complete development of the outer skin (body engineering). The scope of the project also included the design of the connection between the vehicle body and the steel frame, and the development and integration of ambient and underbody lighting in the "emover". Production of the futuristic outer skin was undertaken by the EDAG model building team in Fulda. The HYDRO Systems "emover" complies with the standards for industrial trucks and will go into series production at the beginning of 2021. Powered by six electric wheel hub motors, the "emover" has a total weight of 60 tons and its ultra-flat design enables it to tow both small and large aircraft such as the A380, which can weigh up to 577 tons. To this end, the vehicle has a nominal power of 720 KW.

"The development of sustainable and forward-looking vehicle concepts is firmly anchored in the DNA of the EDAG Group. We are proud to have successfully demonstrated our automotive expertise in the field of special-purpose vehicles," emphasises Cosimo De Carlo, CEO of the EDAG Group.
